About Me

Overview

I am Md. Arshadul Islam, a Lecturer in the Department of Urban & Regional Planning at Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET). I completed my Bachelor of Urban & Regional Planning (BURP) from RUET in 2024, securing 1st position in my cohort, and am currently pursuing my Master of Urban & Regional Planning (MURP) at the same institution.

My academic and research interests lie at the intersection of urban planning, geospatial methods, and computational approaches. I am particularly interested in using GIS, remote sensing, and emerging data-driven methods to understand urban change, spatial inequalities, and planning challenges, with an emphasis on evidence-based spatial planning.

Before joining academia, I worked as an Assistant Urban Planner at Sheltech Consultants (Pvt.) Ltd., where I contributed to the preparation of master plans for 16 municipalities under the government’s Improving Urban Governance and Infrastructure Project (IUGIP).

Research Interests

  • Geospatial Analytics & Remote Sensing: GIS, Google Earth Engine (GEE), satellite image classification, and spatial statistics.
  • Spatial Equity & Accessibility: Urban green spaces, public amenity distribution, and environmental justice.
  • Urban Climate Resilience: Climate-related urban hazards, urban heat dynamics, and adaptation strategies.
  • Inclusive & Participatory Planning: Community-led planning, participatory GIS (PGIS), and resident-tourism dynamics.

  • Contributed to the preparation of Master Plans for 16 municipalities (pourashavas) across the Chattogram Division.
  • Digitized high-resolution drone imagery, updated physical features (structures, roads, waterbodies), and performed Quality Control (QC) on spatial attribute tables.
