I teach undergraduate theory and studio/sessional courses in the Department of Urban & Regional Planning (URP) and the Department of Architecture at Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET). My instruction focuses on statistical methods, physical planning history, local governance systems, cartography, and practical urban planning studios.

Theory Courses

URP 2141: Statistics for Planners I

• Department: Urban & Regional Planning, RUET

Topics Taught:

• Descriptive statistics and presentation of planning data
• Measures of central tendency (arithmetic mean, geometric mean, weighted mean, median, mode)
• Measures of dispersion (variance, standard deviation, coefficient of variation)
• Skewness and kurtosis
• Empirical and Chebyshev’s theorems
• Index numbers: types, uses, weighted/unweighted indices, Laspeyres and Paasche methods

URP 2151: Physical Planning I

• Department: Architecture, RUET

Topics Taught:

• Determinants of the form, nature, and character of cities
• Origin and evolution of human settlements and cities
• City planning across historic periods (Ancient, Classical, Medieval, Neo-Classical, Renaissance, Baroque)
• Modern city planning, the Industrial Revolution, and urban development
• Utopian planning concepts (Garden City, Vertical City, Linear City)
• Neighbourhood planning and Radburn layout
• Spatial patterns and structures of urban growth

HUM 3203: Political Science & Local Government

• Local government system in Bangladesh and its evolution
• Local government and planning in urban and rural contexts
• Resource mobilization at the local level and local-national government linkages
• Information flows, local planning frameworks, and national policy integration
• Community governance, partnerships, and public participation (focusing on gender inclusion)
• Sustainability, resilience, and capacity building of local governing bodies

• Map elements: legends, symbology, scale types, representative fraction (RF), and north arrows
• Map drawing, enlargement, reduction, and manual area calculations
• Practical choropleth mapping techniques

URP 3102: Urban Planning Studio

• Department: Urban & Regional Planning, RUET

Topics Taught:

• Review and field-based assessment of urban land-use components, problems, and potentials
• Site identification, reconnaissance surveys, and project methodology formulation
• Field data collection, secondary data organization, and analytical planning techniques
• Preparation of comprehensive land-use plans and site designs
• Execution of group-based planning projects, progress presentations, and report writing
